4-year-old Ester was suffering from Tuberculosis. Her mother could not afford to pay for the adequate healthcare that her daughter desperately needed. Luckily, the voluntary health worker Andy Sunday found Ester and brought her to a hospital where the little girl got the treatment she needed. Over the next months Andy made sure that Ester was taking her medication and that she was recovering.
Voluntary health workers like Andy Sunday are needed to care for TB patients in rural areas. They ensure that the disease is fully cured and cannot affect others.
Only 8,000 Naira / 20 Euros pay the allowance for a voluntary health worker for the care of a TB patient for 6 months – the duration of treatment for TB.
